If you don't follow me on Instagram you would have missed the news that I finally treated myself to a drone. Sorry if you do and you've already heard this twenty times already. I'm just very excited! Every portrait client I've worked with will testify to the fact that on every shoot I will say 'If I had a drone' 'One day I will get a drone' 'I wish I could get a drone'- or will mention a drone at least once. The main barrier to my drone dream was the license costs, and time. Who can just take a few days off to take a course? It also worked out cheaper to pay for driving lessons and buy a car than it did to legally be able to fly a drone commercially and I should probably do that first. Maybe this year will be the year? Anyway thanks to new regulations introduced this year the barrier came down and my drone dream finally became possible without having to invest thousands of pounds just to be able to post any photos taken to my business account and I was so excited! Please note: This is limited to a few drones only. Please do your research and check the civil aviation authority website if you're thinking about buying a drone after reading this and own a business account, plan on selling any images or using them in a commercial capacity- There are some hefty fines and even the risk of a prison sentence. Even if you wasn't to know!
Here are my first few Dronie attempts. If you've not familiar with the term like I wasn't until last week, It's basically a self portrait taken with a drone! it's been a week since I've owned it which is technically three days, and 1 hour and 30 minutes if you count the thirty minute battery time and no flying days and it's all still a learning process but I'm so excited about all of the possibilities and future shoots. It's so fascinating having a chance to see the world around us and things we see and usually take for granted everyday from a different perspective.
